Middle Eastern Inspired Date Crescents

Every Spring there is a Middle Eastern food fair at a little church close to my house. I started going to this food fair with my mom and dad while I was in college. I think it was the beginning of my never ending love affair with Middle Eastern food. I could eat hummus on a piece of old leather with no problem!

The food fair includes delicious savory treats like chicken schwarma and falafel. But often the real highlight of the fair are the tables of sweet treats that all the cute little Middle Eastern church ladies must spend weeks making!

My dad and I just went to the food fair last week. It was so good I ate until I felt like I would POP! Hummus, schwarma, baklava, anise cookies. Mmmmmmm. . . .

Momofuku Crack Pie

Sometimes you hear a lot of hype about a particular recipe. You read about it on a million blogs and cooking sites, etc. And then, finally,  you know you have top try it and see if it lives up to its name and the word on the internet. You don’t really believe it could be that wonderful. And then it is!

This is that recipe. . . . and trust me. . . it’s AMAZING!

It’s so good I just wanna roll in it! (Which is also the canine equivalent of saying, “This is AWESOME”.)

It’s so good I want to eat 4 pieces at one sitting, even though it’s so sweet I know that would create the need for an instant root canal.

Stuffed Cookies and Cream Cupcakes

It’s our niece’s birthday. Happy 16th, V!

A few lucky folks in her life may get her to share a cupcake with them.

I was tapped to make the birthday girl’s cupcakes. Several hours of my weekend were devoted to making 2 kinds of yummy cupcakes. I’ll share one today and we’ll talk about the other later.

Iced Christmas Sugar Cookies

Aren’t the holidays exhausting? So much to bake, cook, wrap, decorate, mail, buy, etc. .. ..and still try to find time to enjoy the holiday in your own way.

I bake a lot. (ya think?)  Sometimes I get so involved in holiday baking and candy making that I have way too much to even distribute to friends and family.  Sometimes I spend so long in the kitchen in a single day that my feet hurt as though I have been wearing high heels in a 5k. (Probably not a good idea, by the way.) Sometimes my jeans feel too tight cause I have eaten enough fudge to choke an elf.

Favorite Things Party & Champagne Punch

Several month ago I read a post online about a ‘Favorite Things’ party.  Basically a bunch of friends get together and swap favorite things. . what ever those things might be. So last friday night, after much planning I finally hosted one. And it was fun. Like really fun. Not like a boring purse/candle/jewelry party that you sit through and then feel guilty cause you don’t want to buy any of that junk but you feel like you have to. None of that with this party. For me it was about having an excuse to have people over and stuff mass quantities of sweets and booze into them. I mean that in itself is fun. Planning the menu was all I could think about for weeks.
