This is a doughnut/muffin hybrid. Looks like a muffin, tastes like a cake doughnut. Really it does.
Doughnut? Donut? Which one is it. Maybe I should use donut just for sake of it being a few less letters to type. Am I that lazy? Possibly.
So, Tim and I are soon going to be hiking/backpacking/camping experts. Actually with the amount of reading Tim has been doing I’m pretty sure he already is an expert even though we haven’t had a chance to practice much.
We live in the cold north and winter/snow camping is not yet on my radar as a “fun” thing to do. Until spring rolls around, reading about it and trying out hiker friendly meals is as good as it gets.
OK, it’s a little past peach season. Not that you can’t still get some good peaches but they won’t be at the peak of their sweetness. Fortunately, these are fried (or maybe unfortunately for my jeans) and the peaches will taste delicious in this yummy fritter batter regardless of the lateness of the season.
It’s sort of an unspoken quest for Tim and I to try to find the most delicious apple fritter possible. Tim has a ‘thing’ for the apple fritter and I may lean toward other morning pastries but I still can appreciate a crispy bite of fritter perfection. Fyi, in case you ever have the urge to bring me breakfast – I lean toward almond filled croissants, cream filled long johns, coconut covered cake donuts and plain old raised glazed donuts. I wait all year for apples to be in season. Michigan apple season means a vast selection of apples to choose from and because our state is a huge apple producer, it means usually you can get many pounds for not many dollars. Always a plus.
My favorite kinds of apple? Gala, Ginger Gold, Honey Crisp. I also just had some Paula Red’s that were sweet and yummy. I usually like my apples very crispy and a little tart and tangy. Read the rest of this entry
‘Tis the season to be harvesting. In my case that has meant fennel, chard, basil, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant. . oh yea, and zucchini.
The harvest has been light for most things this year. We’ve been slaughtered by slugs and snails. Zucchini must not be as delicious as the tomatoes are because they haven’t been bothered by a single critter. Read the rest of this entry
