Guess what? I’m on my way to somewhere tropical. Somewhere warmer than 5 degrees. Somewhere I will likely drink rum. I guess I’ve dragged my feet long enough on fall baking. I miss fresh tomatoes, basil, cucumbers & zucchini already. And warmth, I miss warmth. I’ve already seen the first flurries of snow here in MI and I am not impressed.I do love fall squash though. A new phenomenon for me and now that I love it, I love it all the way. I want to revisit cherry chip cake. I haven’t made it in a few months but I am wishing for a big slice right now. Cherry season is over but this recipe only relies on maraschino cherries from a jar and they are ALWAYS in season in my world.This is a simplified version of my other cherry chip cake recipe. With the addition of the chocolate icing it mimics a chocolate covered cherry. Yummy! Need some now!

Where has my summer gone? I can’t believe it’s August. I’ve barely even shared with you this summer. Recipes or stories about how I am an outdoors woman now!It’s true. I’ve lived in the woods and survived without running/potable water, refrigeration, toilets, etc. Just us, some dehydrated food, a water filter and a shovel. Ok, and a few comforts such as a tent, hammock, comfy little chairs and some wine. Of course, I didn’t have popsicles but I survived with out homemade treats for 4 whole days. Popsicles are one of those simple pleasures that I remember from my childhood with fondness but rarely have in my freezer these days. They are exceedingly easy to make in a dizzying variety of flavors. Plus, instead of being glorified frozen sugar you can use REAL fruit or REAL coffee or REAL ingredients in general. Much more refreshing on a hot summer day.My favorite popsicles, by the way, were those ones that are in little plastic sleeves. In particular, Otter Pop brand, blue raspberry flavor, please! It’s been a while since I last shared a recipe with you. I needed a month off. We have been MUCHO busy with sanding, staining & putting new railings on our deck, birthday parties, adding a retaining wall and landscaping to our front yard, perennial gardening, having house guests, having a garage sale, getting a large veggie garden planted, graduation & open house & all that is involved with that (step-son), etc. I’ve had little time or desire to bake unless it was for open house prep or a birthday treat.
